ATTWOOD SAVE’S THE DAY

This match was a repeat of last years cup final when Swindon village just edged the game 2 -1,SARACENS started the match with an attacking formation hoping to take the game to Swindon village but the condition of the pitch did not suit Saracens fast attacking football.Chances were missed by both teams in the first half with Saracens Ryan Deacon playing some fabulous one touch moves and opening up the Swindon defence and with Saracens keeper Ryan Attwood marshalling the defence of Tom Bebber and Henry Simmonds at the other end of the pitch Saracens went into half time the more confident team.Saracens leading goalscorer with 36 so far this season Zack Kotwica who only started the game after a late fitness test had to be substituted at halftime with Ryan Deacon due to there injuries. Saracens had to make some tactical changes to the formation with Sam Wood and Josh Preston coming on for the injured duo.

Swindon changed tactics in the second half playing the ball long over the Saracens midfield trying to reduce the effect on the game of the Saracens captain Spencer Hamilton and fellow midfield partner Elliott Keightley but the Saracens team having to play more and more as unit repelled all Swindon high balls and long range shots. With both teams tiring the game went into extra time with neither team giving anything away.

The game had to be decided by penalties with Saracens captain Spencer Hamilton stepping up to take the first one and grazed the post and put his effort wide.Saracens keeper and man of the match Ryan Attwood stepped in and saved the first of swindon’s penalties with a high class save.Ryan Deacon was next to step up and he scored into the bottom left hand corner to put Saracens one up.Swindon village then scored there first of the day with a well taken penalty.Josh Preston was next and his shot was well saved by the Swindon keeper. With the next effort from Swindon hitting the crossbar the score stayed at 1 – 1.Sam Wood stepped up next to coolly Pass the ball into the bottom right hand corner and give the keeper little chance putting Saracens 2 – 1 up,and with Swindon then equalizing .Elliott Keightley stepped up next to blast the ball past the helpless keeper putting Saracens 3 – 2 up the game was won by hero and man of the match Saracens keeper Ryan Attwood who made another high class save to put Saracens into the final.
