Latest League Table

Weekly Round Up

An important League match took place in midweek when the two remaining unbeaten sides, Yate Town and Almondsbury met at the former’s ground. Early goals meant that approaching the half hour the match was even at 1-1, but then Almondsbury stepped up a gear and took a comfortable lead into half time, before ramming home their advantage in the second half to win 5-1; Nick Gray, Ben Dowdell, Josh Baker [2] and Ashley Wells scored the goals for Almondsbury.

The top of the table is now very interesting. Oldland Abbotonians lead by 12 points but have played a lot more games than either Yate Town or Almondsbury. However, on the basis of points dropped so far this season, Almondsbury have dropped two, and both Oldland and Yate four and each club has to play the other two once more.

Finally, the outstanding League Cup Second Round matches that have been constantly postponed since 22nd November were played on Sunday. Longwell Green Sports were at home to Gala Wilton on a sunny but bitterly cold afternoon. The early chances fell to the home side but it was Gala Wilton that led 1-0 at the break as Adam Familiglieti latched on to a defensive error when two Longwell Green players went for the same ball, and Familiglieti scored from an acute angle. Late on in the second half Alex Gabb the match safe for Gala, who have just over two days to recover before going to Forest Green Rovers on Tuesday, 16th March for the delayed semi final.

The second League Cup match was a local derby between Winterbourne United and Almondsbury, fresh from their midweek League win. Winterbourne made Almondsbury fight and the sole goal of the game came in the second half of extra time from Alex Tanner. This goal means that Almondsbury play host to Yate Town on Sunday, 14th March in the semi final.
